On October 1, 2024, professors from CSU visited the Azerbaijan Vegetable Research Institute as part of the international project "Enhancing the Potential of Universities to Initiate and Participate in Cluster Development Based on Innovation and Sustainability" (UniClaD), under the European Union's ERASMUS+KA2 Program No. 609944-EPP-1-2019-1-LT-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP. During the visit, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan Vegetable Research Institute, Mr. Elmar Allahverdiyev, provided information about the institute's specialized departments, laboratories, the seed processing center, and breeding centers. The primary goal and mission of the Azerbaijan Vegetable Research Institute are the development and implementation of comprehensive modern programs that ensure the dynamic growth of vegetable farming and provide necessary scientific and methodological assistance to vegetable-producing households.The institute’s laboratories develop varieties of vegetables, fruit crops, and potatoes with high productivity and quality, resistant to adverse abiotic factors, diseases, and pests. The staff of the Azerbaijan Vegetable Research Institute develops comprehensive agro-technologies to support and enhance soil fertility in various regions, introduces advanced methods for producing elite seeds, and offers methodological assistance and scientific guidance for integrating scientific achievements and advanced production practices into the agricultural enterprises of Azerbaijan.Thanks to the genetic bank of vegetables, fruit crops, and potatoes available at the institute, the collection, preservation, and restoration of these crops’ gene pool are ensured. Since 1965, over 150 varieties of vegetables, fruit crops, and potatoes have been developed, with 67 being regional varieties, and 41 currently being tested at the Agricultural Services Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan.Studying the valuable experience of advanced agricultural technologies is one of the focus areas for the development of the Agricultural Technology Faculty of Comrat State University.
