PROJECT: „ A SOCIO-CULTURAL MODEL ATTEMPT TO PRESERVE THE GAGAUZ LANGUAGE AND CULTURE: TURNING HEALTHY BILINGUALISM INTO AN ADVANTAGE FOR THE GAGAUZ” (MODELGAGAUZ)

The project “A socio-cultural model attempt to preserve the gagauz language and culture: turning healthy bilingualism into an advantage for the Gagauz” focuses on applying an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to the preservation and development of the Gagauz language and culture. The project is currently at a mid-advanced stage within the framework of the concepts "from idea to implementation" and "from laboratory to society"

Implementation period: 03.02.2025 – 31.12.2026

The MODELGAGAUZ project adopts an interdisciplinary approach and is positioned at the mid and advanced stages on the spectrum “from idea to implementation” and “from laboratory to society.” The initiative is based on the implementation of the patented SOYAC model (patent no. 202012847, issued by Destek Patent A.Ş., valid until 2030). The project is oriented towards the practical application of the SOYAC model in the context of preserving the Gagauz language and culture. It is also aligned with the “Education Development Strategy 2030” of the Republic of Moldova and “The 12th Economic Development Plan” of Turkey, making it relevant within national educational policy

The main objectives of the project include:

  • Supporting harmonious bilingualism among Gagauz children under the age of 12, improving their future educational and career prospects;
  • Developing existing online platforms (“TATLI DİL”, “GÜLLÜ KARANFİL İLE GAGAUZCA ÖĞRENİYORUM”) and creating new content, including short films and interviews with children. These materials will be distributed via a YouTube channel, ensuring access not only for children but also for parents and the broader community;
  • Expanding social and media platforms, including publishing field research brochures (4 issues per year, with a print run of 2500-3000 copies per issue, reaching up to 17,000 children);
  • Organizing the course “Research in Social Sciences: Participatory Methods and Qualitative Methodology” for students and faculty at Comrat State University (Republic of Moldova) and universities in Turkey (Maltepe and Trakya). Online class recordings will be available on the MODELGAGAUZ YouTube channel;
  • Conducting the "My Istanbul" photography project and adapting it for the settlements of the Gagauz Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA Gagauzia) during the Hederlez holiday. Participants' works will be published in a photo album and exhibited in universities in Moldova and Turkey;
  • Producing radio programs in partnership with Trakya University Radio Günebakan, expanding the project's outreach

The project involves leading universities and research centers, including:

  • Comrat State University (Republic of Moldova);
  • Maltepe University (Republic of Turkey);
  • Trakya University (Republic of Turkey);
  • The Applied Learning Center for Street Children (SOYAC) (Republic of Turkey)
