Students of Foreign Languages Department of Сomrat State University Have Experienced Writing a Special Form of the Article Called “Listicle”

On February 24, 2025, as a part of Practical Course of English lessons there was held a planned lesson at the Department of Foreign Languages ​​of Comrat State University. The first-year students of groups AN-24 and RA-24 took part in the lesson. They prepared a series of interesting and useful Listicle articles. The English term “listicle” is made up of two words: “list” and “article. Thus, a listicle is information material compiled in the form of a list. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word “listicle” first appeared in 2007.

Listicle is a special article format in which information is presented in the form of a list with numbered items. This format helps to easily perceive and remember information. The main goal of this lesson was to enrich students’ knowledge and inspire them to self-development through the discussion of important topics. The lesson was aimed at developing practical skills, increasing interest in learning and forming a conscious attitude towards personal growth and the world around us. Students presented tips and methods that would help to improve the quality of life, take care of health, learn languages and protect the environment.

Students of the groups worked in groups of three or two students; individual projects of listicles were also presented. Kambur Olga, Karaseni Vasilisa and Esir Svetlana presented a listicle called “Seven Ways to Make Your Day Interesting”. They talked about how to make every day of your life rich and interesting by doing physical activity, using creativity, changing routine and much more. Emphasizing how important each day in life is for us, the students drew attention to the importance of appreciating every moment.

Health was one of the key topics of the lesson. Valentin Kulev in the article “Seven Ways to Boost Your Immunity” told how to strengthen the immune system with the help of proper nutrition, regular exercise and good sleep. His advice helped the participants understand how important it is to take care of yourself and your health in order to maintain it.

Student Uzun Diana raised an important topic “Why a Little Stress Is Not So Bad”, revealing how moderate stress can become an incentive for productivity and achieving goals. She explained that stress, within reasonable limits, can motivate, turning challenges into opportunities for personal growth.

Zakharia Daria presented an important listicle entitled “7 Ways to Preserve Nature”. She focused on preserving nature and suggested simple steps to protect the environment. Her project included ideas on how each of us can contribute to improving the environmental situation, from sorting garbage to choosing environmentally friendly products. These actions would not only save nature, but would also have a positive impact on people’s health.

Domnika Khristeva, Tatyana Kyvyrzhik and Irina Topal spoke about the incredible benefits of cereals in the article “Seven Reasons to Include Cereals in Your Diet”. They explained how cereals have a positive effect on digestion, saturate the body with essential substances and support health.

No less fascinating was the topic of the importance of books and reading them. Anastasia Novak, Svetlana Popa and Tatyana Zabunova presented the article “Seven Ways to Motivate Yourself to Read”, where they shared the secrets of creating the perfect atmosphere for reading. They suggested choosing only those books that really spark interest, listening to audiobooks, creating a cozy reading corner and much more. The participants realized that a book is not only a way for self-development, but also a good friend that inspires and allows you to live the story of the heroes. Krudu Olga and Batmaz Evgeniya presented the topic “Seven Reasons Why Work Is So Important”, emphasizing the role of work in self-development and social adaptation. They gave examples of how work helps to develop personal qualities that are valued in society and make a person disciplined.

The topic of learning foreign languages ​​had a great significance at the lesson. Deli Afina and Bratan Olga prepared a listicle “Seven Reasons Why Learning English Is Important”, in which they revealed the importance of English for a future career, study, self-development and travel. Their story included inspiring words about how knowledge of a language opens doors to a world of great opportunities.

At the end of the lesson, Türkü Irem presented the topic “Seven Effective Ways to Learn a Language”, sharing unique methods for effective language learning. She spoke about the importance of setting a goal, practicing daily, learning grammar and vocabulary of the language, and watching films in the original language.

The lesson was conducted in English and all projects were prepared in English. This lesson has become a real source of inspiration for the students, who learned a lot about self-development, healthy lifestyle, language learning and protecting the environment. Inspired by the ideas and recommendations, filled with enthusiasm, the participants left the classroom with the confidence that self-development and taking care of their health are key components of a successful and harmonious life. It is worth noting that all these articles, made in the "listicle" format, helped to structure the information, making it accessible and more informative, memorable. All students had an excellent opportunity to improve their speaking skills.
