
On May 21, 2025, Comrat State University (CSU) hosted a roundtable on the topic: "Challenges and Perspectives in Teaching Bulgarian as a Native Language in a Multicultural Environment (ATU Gagauzia)." The event was organized to discuss current issues in teaching Bulgarian in multilingual settings, exchange pedagogical experiences, and develop concrete solutions aimed at preserving Bulgarian linguistic and cultural identity in the region. Welcoming remarks were made by: Her Excellency Mrs. Maya Dobreva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Moldova; Counsellor of the Political Service at the Embassy of Bulgaria in the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Tihomir Todorov; Dr. hab., Ivan Duminica, Head of the Interethnic Relations Policy Service at the Ministry of Education and Research a Republic of Moldova; Mr. Alexander Borimechkov, Director of the Association for the Development of the Bulgarian Community in the Republic of Moldova; Dr. Nadejda Gaidarji, Head of the Educational Policy and Management Department of the General Directorate of Education of Gagauzia. In the message, Rector of CSU Assoc. prof., Dr., Serghei Zaharia emphasized: "Today's meeting is driven by the need for an open and professional dialogue about the future of the Bulgarian language in our region. Bulgarian is an integral part of Gagauzia's cultural and historical diversity, and preserving the language, traditions, and identity is our shared responsibility." H.E. Ambassador Maya Dobreva highlighted Bulgaria's significant support for Bulgarian language education in Gagauzia, including school funding. She emphasized the importance of establishing a Bulgarian Language and Culture Center at CSU as a platform for preserving the language and traditions. choreographic numbers prepared by creative groups performing Bulgarian folk-art. During the discussion session, moderated by: Assoc. prof., Dr., Larisa Boicova, (CSU), Dr., Delibaltova Maria, Dr., Danailova Katerina, reports were delivered by teachers and heads of educational institutions from different localities of ATU Gagauzia. The topics of the reports covered a wide range of issues - from methodological approaches in teaching the Bulgarian language to the analysis of successful practices and difficulties faced by teachers in real conditions. The participants of the Round Table paid special attention to such aspects as:
- Development of motivation in students to learn Bulgarian language;
- the role of the school as a space for preserving ethno-cultural identity;
- the use of modern technologies in teaching the native language;
- intercultural interaction in the educational environment
At the end of the round table, the participants expressed a common opinion on the need for further cooperation between educational institutions, support from Bulgaria and expansion of Bulgarian language teaching programs in the region.
