Public Lecture Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Liudmila Pocrovscaia, the Founder of the Scientific Grammar of the Gagauz Language

Comrat State University, in collaboration with the Maria Marunevici Research Center of Gagauzia, has planned meetings with students and teachers specializing in Gagauz studies within the Autonomy. The goal is to promote knowledge among Gagauz students about the significant contribution of Liudmila Pocrovscaia, to the establishment of Gagauz literacy, the study of the structure of the Gagauz language, and its development. The lecturers Ivanna Bancova,  Assoc. Prof., PhD of the Department of Gagauz Philology and History at CSU, and I. D. Rishilyan, Researcher at the Maria Marunevici Research Center, presented fascinating insights about Liudmila Pocrovscaia’s expeditions to Gagauz villages in Moldova, her scientific research, dedication to the Gagauz people, and promotion of the Gagauz language. On March 26, 2025, a public lecture with a presentation titled “Liudmila Pocrovscaia, – Founder of the Scientific Grammar of the Gagauz Language” was held for high school students of the Theoretical Lyceum in Chişmichioi. On March 27, 2025, the same public lecture and presentation took place for students of Dezginzha Gymnasium. The administration and students of both the Theoretical Lyceum in Chişmichioi and Dezginzha Gymnasium warmly welcomed the lecturers and expressed great interest in both Liudmila Pocrovscaia’s personality and her scientific research in Turkic and Gagauz studies. Gagauz language teachers, together with their students, showed keen interest in studying the scholar’s visits to their respective villages, Chişmichioi and Dezginzha. As a memento of the event, the Maria Marunevici Research Center of Gagauzia presented the educational institutions with a set of books from the “Gagauz Studies” series.
