From December 2 to December 6, 2024, Dr. Liudmila Fedotova, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology of Comrat State University, visited the University of Applied Sciences in Isparta, Republic of Turkey, as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching program. Her visit encompassed both scientific and cultural activities, providing a unique experience and opening prospects for future collaborations between the universities. Liudmila Fedotova toured the university's laboratories, where she familiarized herself with advanced research. One of the laboratories, the soil science lab, focused on studying soil salinization using lemon seedlings as a model system to investigate its effects on plant growth. Another lab, the biotechnology lab, showcased intriguing experiments on cloning various plants, including exotic species like pitaya and chokeberry. Liudmila Fedotova noted the laboratories' high level of equipment and the relevance of ongoing research. During her visit, Liudmila Fedotova delivered a series of lectures to students and faculty at Isparta University:
- The Habitat of the Gagauz: Insights into the culture, history, and scientific activities related to soil biological activity in Gagauzia.
- Soils of Moldova: Characteristics and challenges of the region's soil cover.
- Soil Degradation: Causes of erosion, salinization, and pollution, and their consequences.
- Climate Change: The impact of climate shifts on soil processes and ecosystems.
- Ecological Restoration: Methods and principles for restoring degraded soils.
The lectures sparked great interest and stimulated fruitful discussions, paving the way for scientific exchanges and future joint projects. The visit also included exploring the region's cultural heritage: a visit to the museum dedicated to the life and political career of Süleyman Demirel, former president of Turkey; participation in a traditional woodworking demonstration and sapling planting; and a tour of greenhouses cultivating roses, emphasizing Isparta's agricultural significance. Liudmila Fedotova emphasized that the trip provided valuable insights and a deeper understanding of ongoing research at Isparta University. The high level of organization and innovative approaches inspired further collaboration in soil science and biotechnology. Her visit marked a step forward in strengthening academic ties between Comrat State University and the University of Applied Sciences in Isparta, laying the groundwork for knowledge exchange and joint research.
