On February 20, 2025 at Comrat State University, Acting Head of Private Law Department, Olga Tatar, Ph.D. Associate Professor held a round table with 3rd year students of Law Faculty on the topic: “Basics of Writing and Legal Grammar”. For any lawyer in any country in the world, it is extremely important to be able to write clearly and concisely. Although each language has its own peculiarities and nuances, the goal of legal writing remains the same everywhere: to present legal information in a way that is understandable and can be applied in practice. A successful lawyer’s work requires not only a good knowledge of the law, but also the ability to apply this knowledge for the benefit of a certain client. In the first years of their professional activity, lawyers are mainly focused on improving their knowledge of legislation and legal principles. However, in the course of gaining practical experience, they must also learn to correctly express their thoughts and apply their knowledge in a specific situation. This is the highest skill - to be able to choose from the many existing legal ideas exactly the one that will prove to be a guiding element and show the right way. At the same time, legal writing has its own specifics, and when working on a legal text, special rules must be followed to create a document of quality. Despite the differences in the means and methods of preparing different types of documents, there are rules that are common to work on any legal text. The goal of the course is not only to highlight the American specifics of drafting business papers, but also to explain how to organize your thoughts and put them down on paper in such a way that they can be quickly and easily understood.
