At the Faculty of Law of Comrat State University, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic: "Effective Legal Reasoning and Writing."

On October 11, 2024, the Department of Private Law at the Faculty of Law of Comrat State University organized a roundtable on the topic: "Effective Legal Reasoning and Writing." During the event, students presented reports on the power of persuasive legal writing. The roundtable was organized by the acting head of the department, Assoc. Prof., Dr., Olga Tatar, together with third-year law students. Throughout the discussion, students delivered reports that explored the topic and revealed that both lawyers and law students, as well as legal professionals, must possess the ability to effectively communicate their arguments and persuade others through writing, which is crucial in the professional field.

It was noted that persuasive legal writing goes beyond simply presenting facts and legal analysis, involving the creation of a compelling narrative. The participants and speakers emphasized that legal writing should begin with a clear and concise introduction that establishes the main thesis, followed by a logical development of arguments, providing supporting evidence and legal analysis along the way. Effective legal writing must anticipate and efficiently address counterarguments. The students of the Faculty of Law at CSU considered opposing viewpoints and potential weaknesses in the arguments. By acknowledging and refuting counterarguments, the students demonstrated a thorough understanding of the issue at hand.

The students, participants of the roundtable, reached several important conclusions during the discussions:

  • A well-structured argument is key to persuasive legal writing;
  • Persuasive legal writing is a powerful tool that can significantly impact the outcomes of legal disputes;
  • Understanding the audience, structuring arguments effectively, using persuasive language and rhetoric, supporting arguments with evidence, anticipating counterarguments, and creating a compelling narrative can enhance persuasive writing skills and help present one's position effectively
