On February 14, 2023, an event dedicated to St. Valentine’s Day in English was organized at the Department of Foreign Languages of Comrat State University. The objectives of this event were: acquaintance of students with the history of the origin of the holiday of St. Valentine’s Day and the traditions of its celebration; the formation of a foreign language culture in the process of learning English; cultivating a good attitude towards close people. The following goals were also pursued: to develop the creative abilities of students, to cultivate interest in the traditions of the country of the language being studied, to deepen students’ knowledge about the culture and traditions of the peoples of other countries, to form students’ understanding of the essence and meaning of friendship, to foster a friendly attitude towards others.
On St. Valentine’s Day, people give each other heart-shaped cards, say beautiful and kind words to each other, arrange romantic dates. Students of the AN-21 and RE-21 groups demonstrated all these traditions at the celebration. They got prepared very well for this event. Vlad Alina prepared a colorful and bright presentation about the history of this holiday. Ratkova Nadya presented the most interesting information about the symbols of this beautiful and joyful holiday. Ikizli Dora shared the most interesting and unusual facts about Valentine's Day, and also talked about how Valentine’s Day is celebrated in other countries of the world.
Varban Valentina prepared an online crossword and word puzzle on the topic of St. Valentine’s Day. Cazacu Vlada and Karayani Snezhana found bright and wise sayings of famous people about love and shared them with everyone, commenting on them in English. Popovich Olga brought riddles on the theme of the event, and Khahulyak Anastasia recited a beautiful poem about love and friendship. Topal Zelikha and Nedyalkova Alina made Valentine Cards with their hands and wrote their best wishes in them. After that they congratulated all those present at the holiday, giving them these magnificent souvenirs. The event ended with a bright, just incredible performance of two songs in English, which were sung by the talented Yanul Svetlana. These were Rihanna’s song “Diamonds” and L. Daigle’s song “You Say”. And this wonderful event was hosted by the charming presenter Valentina Popova, who skillfully introduced all the participants and prepared a colorful accompanying melody and presentation. We express our deep gratitude to all the participants and guests of this bright and cheerful holiday.
The organizers of this event believe that extracurricular work in foreign languages is always necessary, as it develops and maintains interest in learning languages, develops the creative abilities of students. The celebration of St. Valentine’s Day, which is held annually at the Department of Foreign Languages of Comrat State University, gives our students the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice, regardless of their level, and to believe in themselves in learning a foreign language. St. Valentine’s Day event was successful and productive.
