On November 27, 2025, the Department of Foreign Languages at Comrat State University held a practical lesson dedicated to Thanksgiving for second-year students in groups AN-24 and RA-24. This holiday is celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November.
The objectives of this lesson were:
- to introduce students to the history of Thanksgiving, its customs, and traditions in the United States;
- to develop students’ creative and linguistic abilities;
- to foster tolerance toward representatives of other cultures and increase motivation for further study of English.
After preparing colorful presentations, the students delivered thematic reports that explored the specifics of this holiday, namely, its history, traditions, customs, and various forms of greeting.
The students also watched a video about the history of the American holiday, expanded their vocabulary with new words and expressions, and participated in a thematic quiz. The highlight of the event was decorating a “Turkey” with feathers: the students wrote words of gratitude on paper feathers and attached them to the turkey. Participants had a very positive experience.
This type of activity increases students’ motivation to learn the language, broadens their horizons, teaches tolerance, and reminds them of the fundamental truths of gratitude, doing good, and respecting the traditions of other peoples. Thanksgiving became not only an educational event but also a true celebration of friendship and unity. The students left with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts, filled with gratitude for all the good things in their lives.
