In May 2019, the Comrat State University (CSU) Library welcomed a delegation comprised of: Ms. Donna Flake, Director at Robert M. Fales Health Sciences Library at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina and head of the program for Partnership for Libraries in North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova; Ms. Ekaterina Zasmenco, Director of the Moldovan State University Library; and Ms. Viorika Lupu, Vice President of Agrarian University Library and program moderator. This was a reciprocal visit under this program, as in November 2018 as part of a delegation representing six libraries in Moldova, CSU Library Director Ms. Larisa Chakir visited the state of North Carolina.

During the visit, the delegation toured the library and met its employees, discussed partnership opportunities with our library and university faculty, met with Mr. Zaharia, Rector of Comrat State University, and visited CSU’s American Center. They also visited the village of Avdarma, a local museum, and St. Michael’s Church. Throughout the course of the visit, further steps for mutual cooperation were outlined, including assistance in expanding CSU Library’s English language literature collection. This partnership also offered opportunities for university faculty to publish their own articles in American scientific magazines, get access to international databases, and to participate in interlibrary loans.
On July 10, 2020, as part of this partnership agreement, CSU Library received gifts from the libraries of North Carolina, non-profit organizations, and private individuals. The library received English language books in many subjects including history, culture, language, literature, and psychology, as well as library equipment.
We are very grateful for this donation to our library and we expect these gifts to be exciting and useful new resources for our students in the department of foreign languages as well as other students interested in the English language.
