On September 23, 2025, Doctor of History, lecturer at the Department of Gagauz Philology and History of the Faculty of National Culture of Comrat State University (CSU), the first Chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, Director of the Gagauzia Research Center named after M. Marunevich (2013–2017) – Petr PAȘALÎ celebrates his 70th anniversary. Born on September 23, 1955 in Ceadîr-Lunga, Gagauzia, Petr PAȘALÎ pursued higher education at the Chisinau Agricultural Institute (1978), later at the Kiev Institute of Political Science and Social Management (1991). In 2009, he completed his studies at the Moscow Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, where he defended his doctoral thesis in history. In every field he worked, Petr PAȘALÎ achieved remarkable results. As chief agronomist in Valea-Perjei, he introduced advanced agricultural methods, obtaining record corn harvests that drew attention from specialists in Moldova, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and the Volga region. Later, entering public service, he gained valuable experience in legislative activity. During the time of social change, the Gagauz people, like other nations of the USSR, sought sovereignty and in 1990 created the Gagauz Republic. As a patriot, Petr PAȘALÎ actively contributed. Under his leadership in the Supreme Council of Gagauzia, around 50 local laws and the fundamental law – the Statute of Gagauzia – were adopted. He also fostered business development in Gagauzia, founding and leading the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Gagauzia for 14 years. His scientific and teaching activity expanded as Director of the Gagauzia Research Center named after M. Marunevich, which, under his leadership, strengthened its staff, facilities, archives, and library, reaching international research levels. Since 2018, he has been teaching at Comrat State University, authoring school textbooks “Gaguz halkının istoriyası, kulturası hem adetleri” for grades 3, 4, 7. In 2020 he published the monographs “Dynamics of the Self-Assertion of Gagauz-Yeri Autonomy,” “Essays from the History of Ciolac Village,” and “When Innovation Becomes Tradition.” Petr PAȘALÎ is the editor and compiler of many scientific works published by the Gagauzia Research Center and author of more than 25 articles in collections of conferences, congresses, and symposiums. He actively participated in conferences held in Istanbul, Kazan, Berlin, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Strasbourg. For his achievements, he was awarded with orders and medals of the Republic of Moldova and ATU Gagauzia, as well as numerous diplomas and honorary certificates. In 2005 he received the state award “MERITUL CIVIC,” in 2014 he was decorated with the highest award of the autonomy – the “ORDER OF GAGAUZIA,” and in 2022 he was granted the honorary title “HONORED SCIENTIST OF GAGAUZIA.” At the CSU Scientific Library, a personal exhibition of his works is presented, and everyone is invited to visit it.
