On February 19, Professor, Doctor of Art Studies, educator, film scholar, editor, Associate Professor of the Department of Culture and Arts at CSU (1992–2019), and member of the Union of Cinematographers and the Union of Journalists of Moldova, Nicolai Poliuhov celebrates his 90th birthday.

He was born on February 19, 1936, in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Chișinău State University in 1958 and completed postgraduate studies in Film Studies at the M. Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnography (Kyiv). His first scholarly work (one of more than 80 published works) appeared during his student years.

He began his career as a journalist in the cultural department of the newspaper “Sovetskaya Moldaviya.”
From 1973 to 1976, he worked as a Senior Researcher at the Department of Ethnography and Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. From 1976 to 1979, he headed the Theatre and Cinema Section of the same department.

A film critic, he worked at the Moldova-Film studio and in the editorial and script board of the State Committee for Cinematography of Moldova. He led sections within the Union of Cinematographers and the Union of Journalists, serving for many years as an editor. He actively promoted cinema as a lecturer through the “Znanie” Society and the Bureau for the Promotion of Cinema Art.

He was the organizer and first head of the Theatre and Cinema Department within the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, as well as the organizer and first rector of the Republican People’s Cinema University. For more than fifteen years, he hosted author programs on cinema on Moldovan television.

He has been awarded the honorary badge “Excellence in Culture,” the medals “Veteran of Labour” and “Meritul Civic,” as well as numerous honorary diplomas from universities and ministries.

From 1992 to 2019, he taught at CSU at the Department of Culture and Arts.
