The Heating System in the Student Dormitory of Comrat State University Will Be Replaced

Comrat State University will receive one million lei from the Ministry of Education and Research to replace the heating system in the student dormitory. An additional one million lei will be allocated from the university’s own budget. As a result of this project, energy costs could be reduced by up to 60%. Currently, a tender is being held for the execution of the works, which are expected to be completed during the summer break. The dormitory building of CSU was constructed more than 40 years ago. For a long time, no major repairs were carried out. However, in recent years, living conditions for students have significantly improved: the corridors have been renovated, the building façade has been insulated, windows and doors have been replaced, and new furniture has been purchased. Some of the renovation work was previously carried out with the support of the Energy Efficiency Fund, with a total investment of over 6 million lei. Now, the university is implementing a project to replace the heating system. The Ministry of Education has allocated one million lei, and the university is investing the same amount from its own budget. Rector of Comrat State University, Serghei Zaharia, noted: “The investment will pay off in 1–2 years. During the winter session, when students return home — from December 1 to February 1 — we can shut down the heating system. This way, we can save approximately 50–60% of energy resources.” CSU is one of six higher education institutions in Moldova that received funding from the Ministry of Education and Research for the renovation of academic buildings and dormitories. Currently, about 1,500 students are enrolled at the university, 350 of whom live in the dormitory. Additionally, CSU provides accommodation for more than 100 high school and college students from the municipality of Comrat.
