
On February 9, 2026, the State University of Comrat (CSU) hosted a ceremonial event dedicated to the International Hellenic Language Day, a celebration highlighting the richness and significance of the Hellenic language and culture within the global cultural space.
The event was opened with a welcoming address by the Rector of the State University of Comrat, Assoc.,Prof. PhD who emphasized the special role of the Hellenic language as one of the most ancient languages of Europe, which has had a profound influence on the development of science, philosophy, culture, and education. He also underlined the importance of intercultural dialogue and international cooperation, actively supported by CSU.
A speech was also delivered by His Excellency Mr. Nikolaos Krikos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Moldova, who stressed the importance of preserving and promoting the Hellenic language beyond the borders of the Hellenic Republic and expressed his appreciation to the State University of Comrat for its contribution to the development of cultural and educational ties.
As part of the literary program, works by prominent Hellenic poets were presented. The Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Nikolaos Krikos, recited the poem “Ionikon” by Constantine P. Cavafy, accompanied by a Romanian translation (Nina Tasmaly).
Later, Cavafy’s poem “Byzantinos Archon Exoriston” was performed by Elena Petrovna Arnaut, with a Romanian translation by Yulia Zaharia.
Welcoming speeches were also delivered by:
— His Excellency Mr. Cristian-Leon Turcanu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania;
— Her Excellency Ms. Maya Dobreva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria, who emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and cooperation among nations.
The event became a vivid example of cultural dialogue and once again highlighted the commitment of the State University of Comrat to the values of multilingualism, international cooperation, and respect for the cultural heritage of the peoples of the world.
