As part of International Open Access Week, aimed at promoting the principles of open science, Comrat State University (CSU) organized an event to familiarize students and faculty with current issues and challenges related to open data access. This event has become an annual tradition at CSU, supported by research and educational institutions worldwide. The theme of this year’s week, "Community Over Commercialization," calls for support of scientific initiatives that benefit society and the academic community. Students from groups AN-24, GR-24, PM-24, NDP-24, RA-24, Y-24, and PU-24 participated in informational sessions held in CSU's academic library reading room, where they were presented with a lecture on the significance of open access to databases and the role of community contributions in scientific research.
Chief librarian of CSU's academic library, Anna Chesea, informed students about the mission of Open Access Week, emphasizing the role of scientific libraries and open-access databases for researchers. Special attention was given to the UNESCO Recommendation, endorsed by 193 states, which prioritizes public interest over commercialization. CSU students learned about the resources available through the university's academic library, as well as access to international databases at CSU. The role of the REM Consortium and national scientific libraries in the Republic of Moldova was also discussed. CSU’s academic library implements open access principles through not only its physical resources but also an Electronic Database of scientific and educational materials available on the university's website (http://kdu.md). During the week of October 21-27, 2024, CSU students gained skills in utilizing open access resources for academic and educational purposes, enhancing their knowledge in their professional fields and supporting their research interests.
