International Open Access Week — October 20–26, 2025

At the Scientific Library of Comrat State University, a series of events were held to mark the International Open Access Week, during which educational and research institutions worldwide, including in Moldova, organize activities dedicated to the issues of open science.

The theme of the Open Access Week 2025, “Whose Knowledge?,” raises a fundamental question about how, in times of change and challenge, communities can regain control over their own knowledge. This theme builds on the discussions, events, and initiatives of the past two years, centered around the principle “Community over Commercialization.”

During this week, an informational session was organized in the reading hall of the Scientific Library with students of group ZDNP-24 (“Preschool and Primary Education,” part-time studies) under the guidance of Dr. of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor PhD Oxana Curteva.

Chief Librarian Anna Chesea explained the purpose of Open Access Week, how open databases function for researchers, and how Moldovan library repositories operate.
Students learned which databases are freely accessible at the university, including through the REM Consortium, and how CSU’s library implements Open Access principles—both within the library and through the Electronic Database of Scientific and Educational Materials of CSU (http://kdu.md).

Chief Bibliographer Natalia Garciu gave a presentation on the importance of proper formatting of research papers, citation rules, and compiling bibliographic references.

On October 24, within the same initiative, another event was held with third-year students majoring in Library Science from the M. Çakir College. Chief Bibliographer Natalia Garciu delivered a presentation titled “Whose Knowledge?”, during which students learned about the origins of Open Access Week, discussed existing databases, and reflected on the topic. #OAWeek
