October is rich in birthdays of outstanding people from Gagauzia, our compatriots. One of them is Fedor Afanasyevich Angeli (24.10.1935–30.06.2014), a Doctor of Philology, Honored Journalist of Moldova, prominent political figure, diplomat, historian, writer, and translator.

To honor his multifaceted creative activity and the 90th anniversary of his birth, a roundtable titled “Fedor ANGELI – Diplomat, Writer, Journalist” was organized at the Central Library of Gagauzia named after P. Draganov.

Fedor Angeli’s research was primarily connected with the history and folklore of the Gagauz people, as well as Gagauz lexicography. He authored monographs on the history of Turkey, the Kantemir family, and the history of the Gagauz people, including the formation of the ATU Gagauzia. He was also known as a talented poet and translator.

At the roundtable, invited museum and library staff and public figures discussed these topics. Gagauz poet and journalist F.I. Marinoglo shared memories of Fedor Angeli and their joint work in promoting the establishment of Gagauzia.

The Scientific Library of CSU was represented by Chief Bibliographer Natalia Garcu, who introduced participants to F. Angeli’s works.

It is noteworthy that in December 2021, Fedor Angeli’s family decided to donate his personal library to three institutions in Gagauzia, including our university, with the support of Moldovan Parliament deputy F.N. Gagauz. The Scientific Library received 400 books, including authorial works – dictionaries, poetry collections, translations of Russian and Moldovan writers into Gagauz, studies on the history of Turkey and the Gagauz people, and more. Many books were collected by Fedor Afanasyevich during his life, including dictionaries, textbooks for learning English, German, Turkish, and Spanish, as well as literary works in these languages. Fedor Angeli’s books are used by our students for writing term papers and theses on history, philology, and Gagauz lexicography.
