International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination at Comrat State University

On March 21, the world observes the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This year, a public discussion dedicated to the importance of fighting racial discrimination took place at the Faculty of Law of Comrat State University, as part of this day. The event, held on March 19, 2025, gathered students from the 2nd to 4th years of the Faculty of Law. The discussion was organized in collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsman, the Equality Council of the Republic of Moldova, and Comrat State University.

Svetlana Mironova, Head of the Ombudsman Office in Comrat, invited students to discuss the importance of eliminating racial discrimination and protecting human rights both globally and in the Republic of Moldova. Jan Feldman, Chairman of the Equality Council of the Republic of Moldova, presented the work of the Council, its mission, and its formation process. He also spoke about the Equality Council's website (www.egalitate.md), where students could explore guides in 6 languages, the possibility of submitting an online petition, and research projects carried out by the Council. During the meeting, Jan Feldman and Svetlana Mironova emphasized that joint efforts of human rights organizations could reduce manifestations of discrimination in society. Dr. Assoc., Prof.  of CSU Svetlana Mironova, analyzed with the participants possible forms of discrimination and demonstrated how easily one could become a victim of racial discrimination in her presentation. In practical exercises, students checked how prone they could be to discrimination. The discussion concluded with a video about the equality of representatives of different nations and ethnic groups. All participants actively engaged in the discussion, and at the end of the meeting, students received brochures titled "Mechanisms of Protection Against Discrimination," published by the Ombudsman Office, to distribute among citizens. The event took place in an open discussion format, allowing each participant to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of fighting racial discrimination and the need to protect human rights.
