Comrat State University lecturers served as experts in a regional study on school safety

On 16 October 2026, Comrat hosted a presentation of the results of the project «Safety of the Educational Environment in Schools of Gagauzia», devoted to studying school safety, preventing bullying and improving child protection mechanisms in the region’s educational institutions.

The event was organised by the M. V. Marunevich Scientific Research Centre of Gagauzia in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, the General Directorate of Education of Gagauzia and the Ombudsman’s Office.

An important contribution to the research project was made by representatives of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology at Comrat State University — Ludmila Ibrisim, PhD in Psychology and lecturer, and S. G. Kucereanu, PhD in Psychology and lecturer, who served as experts in the analysis and scientific interpretation of the study’s findings.

The large-scale sociopsychological study covered 2960 respondents: 1192 pupils, 235 teachers and 1533 parents from educational institutions in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. The comprehensive analysis made it possible to examine school safety from the perspectives of the three main participants in the educational process, identify distinctive perceptions of bullying, assess experiences of negative interaction and determine the existing mechanisms for seeking help.

The expert work included analysing the empirical data, comparing the views of pupils, teachers and parents, identifying the most significant problem areas and formulating practical recommendations for improving prevention activities in educational institutions. Particular attention was paid to building pupils’ trust in adults, identifying hidden forms of bullying in a timely manner, enhancing teachers’ professional preparedness, strengthening the role of school psychologists and developing effective cooperation between schools and families.

The involvement of Comrat State University staff in the project demonstrates the importance of partnerships between research institutions, higher education, education authorities and human rights bodies. Such cooperation helps bring together scientific capacity and practical experience to address current educational challenges and develop scientifically grounded recommendations aimed at ensuring children’s psychological well-being.

For the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, participation in such projects is particularly valuable, as it enables the integration of research, expert and educational activities, the use of regional research findings in training future teachers and psychologists, and the strengthening of professional ties with institutions in the region.

Comrat State University continues to develop scientific and professional cooperation, contributing to a safe, supportive and psychologically favourable educational environment for every child.
