On September 26, 2024, Assoc. prof., PhD Serghei Zaharia, Rector of Comrat State University (CSU), held a meeting with experts on national identity from the Republic of Estonia. The delegation included Mr. Raul Rebane, Ms. Katri Raik, and Ms. Tiina Ilsen. The meeting facilitated a constructive dialogue focused on the identity issues of the Gagauz people.The experts discussed the formation and development of CSU, as well as its role in preserving and promoting Gagauz culture and language. Participants expressed significant interest in matters related to the Gagauz language, its place in the educational system, and its role in society at large. Mr. Raul Rebane emphasized the importance of linguistic heritage in shaping national identity and proposed various approaches for its preservation and popularization. Ms. Katri Raik shared experiences from the Republic of Estonia regarding the preservation of minority languages and cultures, which sparked a lively discussion among the participants.In conclusion, the parties exchanged views on the necessity of further collaboration and joint projects. They expressed a willingness to continue working together on research and educational initiatives aimed at supporting the Gagauz language and culture, as well as the identity of the Gagauz people. This exchange of ideas represented an important step toward strengthening the ties between the university and the communities of both countries in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
