On August 14, 2025, the administration of Comrat State University (CSU) held an official meeting with representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Republic of Moldova. The event was attended by:
- Ms. Anne-Marie Deutschlander — UNHCR National Representative in the Republic of Moldova;
- Mr. Pierre Alejandro Chacón — UNHCR Inter-Agency Coordination Assistant in the Republic of Moldova;
- Mr. Kyrylo Prykhodko — UNHCR Inter-Agency Coordination Specialist in the Republic of Moldova. During the meeting, the CSU Rector, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Serghei Zaharia, presented:
- the educational opportunities of the university;
- the campus infrastructure and research resources;
- the university’s ongoing projects in social integration;
- efforts to support vulnerable groups, including forcibly displaced persons
The discussion on cooperation focused on the following areas:
- Organizing joint educational, scientific, and informational events;
- Involving CSU students in volunteer programs and projects providing legal support to refugees and displaced persons;
- Developing joint programs on social integration and human rights protection;
- Including CSU in the global network of universities supporting UNHCR activities (SVMAC)
During the business meeting, an agreement was signed for Comrat State University to join the Sergiu Vieira de Mello Academic Network (SVMAC). Ms. Anne-Marie Deutschlander emphasized that CSU’s participation in the network opens new opportunities for international academic collaboration, experience exchange, and student involvement in projects supporting refugees and socially vulnerable groups. The parties also agreed to further strengthen cooperation in education, legal support, and social integration of forcibly displaced people. Joint initiatives are planned at CSU in partnership with UNHCR, which will allow the university to participate more actively in international projects and academic networks aimed at assisting refugees.
