As part of the research project “Strengthening Intercultural Dialogue and Inclusion in the University Environment of Southern Moldova” – DiVersiUni (Diversity + University + Dialogue), a thematic meeting in the format of a “Thematic Café” was held on October 14 at B.P. Hasdeu State University of Cahul. The event aimed to foster intercultural communication among students and to discuss issues related to refugee rights, social inclusion, and academic tolerance. The meeting was opened by Dr. Liliana Ceclu, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Engineering and Applied Sciences, who welcomed the participants.
The program included a presentation of the project’s objectives by Prof. Dr. Habil. Alla Levitskaia, project coordinator, and an introductory lecture by lawyer Alla Kebac (Cahul Community Center) on refugee rights protection and temporary protection mechanisms in Moldova.
The discussion and group work were moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liudmila Roșca-Șadurschi and Anastasia Kirila, coordinator of the Cahul Community Center.
Students discussed key issues such as:
- What is temporary protection and what rights do people displaced from Ukraine have?
- What barriers hinder their integration into the university environment?
- Is cultural diversity a resource or a challenge for the educational system?
The project team expresses its sincere gratitude to Dr. Sergiu Cornea, Rector of B.P. Hasdeu State University of Cahul, and Dr. Liliana Cechlu, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Engineering and Applied Sciences, for their active support and collaboration.
A similar event will take place on October 24 at Comrat State University, where discussions on intercultural dialogue, social integration, and academic inclusion will continue.
The project is implemented with the support of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Academic Chair (SVMAC) Grant Program and coordinated by the Lawyers’ Center (Centrul de Drept al Avocaților).
Project Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Habil. Alla Levitskaia.
