The Rector of Comrat State University, Dr. Associate Professor Serghei Zaharia, during his Eramus+ Program to Türkiye, met with the Rector of Akdeniz University (Antalya, Türkiye), Prof. Dr. Özlenen Özkan. The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting a shared interest in developing international academic cooperation and exchanging experience between the two institutions.
Akdeniz University, founded in 1982, is one of Türkiye’s leading public research universities. Located in Antalya — a dynamic and rapidly developing hub of education, science, and international collaboration — the university comprises 24 faculties, 7 institutes, 12 vocational schools, and 57 research centers, bringing together over 70,000 students from around the world. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, Akdeniz University holds positions 501–600 in Engineering, 601–800 in Natural Sciences, 801–1000 in Clinical and Health Sciences, and is also recognized in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences. The university is renowned for its scientific achievements — it was here that the first successful face transplant in Türkiye was performed. Today, Akdeniz University actively participates in international research initiatives such as Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, and Mediterranean Research Programs, building sustainable partnerships with universities across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
During the meeting, the rectors discussed key areas of cooperation and agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding, which will include:
- Academic exchange of students and faculty;
- Joint scientific conferences and seminars;
- Implementation of interdisciplinary research on current issues in modern education, innovation, and sustainable development;
- Exchange of scientific literature and publications, as well as the creation of a network for research collaboration.
Both sides emphasized that cooperation between Comrat State University and Akdeniz University will be an important step toward strengthening international academic relations between Moldova and Türkiye, opening new opportunities for scientific and educational partnership.
