Comrat State University Welcomes a Delegation of Historians from Germany

On October 17, 2024, Comrat State University (CSU) was visited by a group of history researchers from Germany, who arrived in the Republic of Moldova to participate in the International Forum Moldova (IFM): History, Culture, Civil Society (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpniujn4Pgo). The forum is held under the patronage of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) in collaboration with Seminars Simulation Consulting Europe (SSC) and supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Moldova Office), the Federal Institute for Eastern European Culture and History (Oldenburg, Germany), the State University of Moldova (Chisinau, Republic of Moldova), and the Institute for German Culture and History of Southeastern Europe (Munich, Germany). The forum’s theme of intercultural communication is of particular political and social importance. Knowledge and recognition of cultural differences and similarities are essential for the successful development of future relations in the Republic of Moldova. The purpose of the guests' visit to the ATU Gagauzia and CSU was to familiarize themselves with the history and culture of the Gagauz people. The rector of Comrat State University Assoc. Prof., Dr., Serghei Zaharia gave a brief overview of CSU’s establishment and development and answered questions regarding the university's academic and scientific activities, as well as its contribution to the region's development. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with international partners to strengthen scientific ties and share experiences in the field of historical and cultural research. Special attention was given to projects aimed at studying the diversity of Gagauz cultural traditions and preserving the region's cultural heritage. The German guests expressed interest in the unique cultural heritage of the Gagauz people and showed a willingness to continue collaboration with CSU in future scientific and cultural projects. The visit also included discussions on opportunities for joint research, academic conferences, and student and faculty exchanges between the universities. The meeting concluded with a tour of CSU’s academic building, where rare books on the history and culture of the Gagauz people were presented for review.
