“Utilizing Models of Innovative Practices in the Initial Training of Preschool Teachers: Learning through Play, Socio-Emotional Learning, and Interactive Reading”

Teachers from Comrat State University, Faculty of National Culture, Department of Gagauz Philology and History, and Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, from August 21 to 23, participated in a seminar organized on the initiative of UNICEF and the Ministry of Education and Research, in partnership with the “Step by Step” Educational Program, for teaching staff from universities and colleges across the country involved in the initial training of early childhood and preschool educators. The event was hosted by the Institute of Labor (Chișinău) and aimed to utilize models of innovative practices in the initial training of preschool teachers, focusing on learning through play, socio-emotional learning, and interactive reading. Participants emphasized the importance of a shared vision for child-centered education and the need to introduce courses, modules, and training content on learning through play. They also noted that the objectives can be achieved through promoting paradigm shifts and newly adopted terms, innovative teaching methods, and inter-institutional collaboration. During the seminar sessions and activities, play was highlighted as a natural means for the holistic development of educators and for supporting children’s well-being. Scientific evidence and benefits for the full development of learners were presented. The working sessions, discussions, and complementary activities are expected to contribute to the selection and development of coherent and sustainable strategies to stimulate learners’ agency and subjectivity, promote children’s socio-emotional development through reading, and integrate applied strategies for the formation of emergent literacy skills within the context of preschool education.
