
On October 28, 2024, Comrat State University hosted a public lecture titled, “Give Me Future: Innovations in Civic Activism from Around the Region.” The event addressed pressing issues and methods of encouraging civic activism. The guest lecturer was American Professor Dr. Douglas Arellanes, a technologist, broadcaster, and software developer focused on implementing innovative technological solutions in journalism. For ten years, Dr. Douglas Arellanes served on the board of the Prague Civil Society Center, from its founding until July 2024, providing expertise in technology and media. He is also a co-founder of the Czech nonprofit institute Sourcefabric, which has developed several award-winning technological solutions for news organizations in developing countries. Among his significant achievements, Dr. Arellanes has led multiple projects aimed at advancing innovations in journalism. He is also known for his work as a broadcaster on Radio 1 91.9FM in Prague (Czech Republic), where he has connected with a broad audience for many years. Dr. Arellanes holds a bachelor’s degree in Book Arts from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA. Comrat State University students showed active interest in the lecture, asking questions about various aspects of civic activism and innovations in media and technology. Their questions were aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the role of technology in promoting civic engagement and obtaining practical advice from the expert. The public lecture by Professor Dr. Douglas Arellanes was organized with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, contributing to strengthening cultural and educational ties between the countries.
