Enhancing Civic Engagement and Media Literacy among Youth and Women from Comrat (ATU Gagauzia) and Taraclia Districts

43 women and young people from southern regions of the Republic of Moldova (Comrat District – ATU Gagauzia and Taraclia District) took part in a training activity aimed at increasing civic engagement and resilience to misinformation. The event was organized by the Public Association “Institutum Virtutes Civilis” in partnership with Comrat State University (CSU). The activity was held at Comrat State University and opened with a welcome address by Rector of Comrat State University, Associate Professor, Dr.  Serghei Zaharia. The training session was delivered by experts from “Institutum Virtutes Civilis”. The program focused on developing civic participation skills, promoting democratic values, and strengthening social cohesion. Particular attention was given to media literacy: participants analyzed examples of propaganda, assessed online content, and practiced rapid information verification algorithms, enabling them to more effectively counter misinformation and social polarization. This event marked another stage in the implementation of the project “Empowering People and Communities for Stronger Social Cohesion (BREN II)”, carried out with the support of the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) and the Government of the United Kingdom, and prepared participants to develop four local community initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue, civic engagement, and social cohesion in communities across southern Moldova.
