International Council for Trade and Cooperation and Comrat State University: Strengthening Strategic Partnership with Gagauzia ATU

Comrat State University (CSU) continues to confidently develop international cooperation, with significant involvement of the International Council for Trade and Cooperation (ATİK). In May 2025, the partnership between ATİK and CSU (including local public authorities and representatives of the entrepreneurial sector of Gagauzia ATU) reached a new level thanks to two important events: the celebration of the 34th anniversary of Comrat State University (February 11, 2025) and participation in the International Business Forum on May 16, 2025, held in Essen, Germany. ATİK President Mr. Aziz Şahin, speaking at the anniversary event at CSU, emphasized:
“Comrat University is an important educational institution for the Gagauz Turks, and we, as ATİK, will continue to contribute to its development. Our cooperation in education will only strengthen”. In his address, Mr. Aziz Şahin also stressed the necessity of “strengthening academic and cultural ties between Turkish students and students studying at CSU,” expressing ATİK’s readiness to actively support international educational initiatives. Rector CSU Assoc. Prof., Dr., Serghei Zaharia, confirmed the university’s aspiration to expand academic and international partnerships:
“Cooperation with ATİK will provide our students access to new opportunities and international projects.” Words of support were also voiced by the Turkish Consul General in Comrat municipality, Mr. Adnan Hayal, who emphasized that Turkey will always stand by Gagauzia and Comrat State University: “Turkey will always support educational initiatives in Gagauzia. Such cooperation contributes to the development of Turkish and Gagauz students.”A significant continuation of the dialogue took place on May 16, 2025, in the German city of Essen, where the International Business Forum was held, organized with the participation of ATİK and the Platform for International Integration of Peoples (UEMP). Distinguished guests were among the honorary participants of the forum. Retired Governor Mr. Ismail Fırat highlighted in his speech the importance of supporting Turkish peoples mutually:
“To be Turkish is destiny! Turkey will always support the Gagauz Turks. Comrat State University and the people of Gagauzia will always feel our support”. ATİK Gagauzia President Mr. Gorgii Sari served as the coordinator of the event and stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation for Comrat municipality and Gagauzia ATU:
“Comrat and Gagauzia will always be with ATİK, and we will do everything possible to strengthen cooperation”. Comrat municipality Mayor Mr. Serghei Anastassov stated:
“Our cooperation will always be strong. For the Gagauz people, Turkey is a very valuable country, and we will make every effort to further strengthen these relations”. Rector CSU Assoc. Prof., Dr., Serghei Zaharia,  emphasized: “CSU is ready to participate in initiatives aimed at developing intercultural dialogue, sustainable development, and integration into the European educational community.” A key event of the forum was the signing of the protocol on the establishment of the Council of European Mayors — a new international initiative aimed at strengthening ties between European cities, universities, and public organizations. The protocol was signed in the presence of delegations from Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Moldova, and other countries. ATİK President Mr. Aziz Şahin reiterated that:
“ATİK will continue to work on building bridges between communities, especially in education and culture. Comrat State University and Gagauzia ATU are important partners on this path.” CSU’s participation in these initiatives demonstrates a high level of trust and a strategic vision of partnership with ATİK aimed at supporting youth, developing science, and strengthening the university’s and Gagauzia ATU’s international ties.
