International Initiatives and Regional Development: Gagauzia's Experience through the IMPACT UTA and ENRICHER hubs

 

On September 9, 2025, the IMPACT UTA Gagauzia program was launched in Comrat, implemented by the Estonian International Development Center (ESTDEV) in cooperation with Civitta and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The initiative aims to provide authorities, businesses, civil society and educational institutions of Gagauzia with knowledge and tools for preparing and implementing projects according to European Union standards.

The first step was the IDEATHON held on September 9, where representatives of the authorities, businesses, universities and civil society together identified the key needs of the region and proposed ideas for future projects.

Professor Alla Levitskaia was involved as a moderator of the process of generating ideas, identifying the needs of the region, including drawing attention to the prospects for the development of the tourism sector and the introduction of modern forms and methods of interaction between the university and employers.

Dr. Ludmila Fedotova, coordinator from Comrat State University of the project "ENRICHER hubs" Designing Green Tourism Concepts Through Learning (Development of concepts of green tourism through learning) ENRICHER HUBS - PROJECT ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE-STRAND-2, presented the concept of the Ecotourism Hub. The opening of the Hub is planned for November this year, as one of the events within the framework of the project. The ecotourism hub at Comrat State University will become an educational and practice-oriented platform for students, entrepreneurs and local communities. Its activities will be aimed at developing sustainable tourism, preserving natural heritage and promoting green initiatives in the region. It is planned to conduct trainings, research projects and partnership events in order to form a modern tourism ecosystem, disseminate information and generate ideas for the development of tourism in Gagauzia.

The project "Development of green tourism concepts through training" (ENRICHER hubs - project) ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE-STRAND-2, started on January 1, 2024; the grandholder of the project is the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), the international coordinator of the project is Nora Lappalainen, the project implementation period is 3 years. The project partners are the International Management Center from Innsbruck (Austria) (MCI Management Center Innsbruck Internationale Hochschule), Universita Degli Studi di Genova, Italy, Caucasus University, A. Tsereteli State University, State University named after. Iakob Gogebashvili, Telavi (Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University), Georgia, universities of the Republic of Moldova – University of European Political and Economic Studies Constantin Stere, Moldova State University.
