Staff members of the Scientific Library of Comrat State University participated in the educational program "Media Culture," organized by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova

The professional online training, conducted over three sessions on November 15, 22, and 27, 2024, was led by education expert Natalia Grîu. During the training, participants explored concepts such as "Media Education," "Media Competence," and "Media Functions." They gained deeper insights into the functions and types of mass media, their roles, and the idea of "responsible media consumption." The program also addressed the role of mass media in shaping public opinion and promoting media education in communities. The librarians enhanced their understanding of the importance of media education in modern society and expressed readiness to develop and support media literacy initiatives among library users. Participants learned to analyze and evaluate news from different perspectives to better understand how information is formed and its impact on society. They identified the characteristics of news messages, their structure, the distinction between facts and opinions, methods of verifying sources, and analyzed the language and tone of news. A particularly relevant topic was "Image Forgery and the Phenomenon of Deepfakes: Verification Institutions and Critical Analysis." Participants found it both interesting and useful to learn how to distinguish authentic photos from fakes created using artificial intelligence, as well as which tools can help verify such fakes. All sessions included practical assignments to reinforce the knowledge gained. Librarians from various types of libraries across Moldova participated in the online training, highlighting the significance of the program in promoting media literacy. The Scientific Library of Comrat State University expresses its gratitude to the organizers and expert Natalia Gryu for the opportunity to participate in such a valuable and meaningful training.
