On May 2, 2025, Comrat State University hosted an event dedicated to the tragic pages of our country’s history: the study of the famine in Gagauz villages in 1946–1947 and the results of archaeological research on mass executions during 1937–1938 in Tiraspol.

Objective:
The scientific-practical seminar aimed to promote research findings on these topics to a broad audience — pupils, students, teachers, researchers, and representatives of local authorities. It served as a platform for dialogue between the academic community and the public.

Senior researcher from the Archaeology Laboratory of T.G. Shevchenko Transnistrian State University, I. Chetverikov, presented a report titled "Archaeology of Terror: Research at the Site of Mass Executions from 1937–1938 in Tiraspol" and launched his monograph "The Name on the Stone. The Last Bastion", summarizing the research results.

Dr. A. Țăranu, political scientist and journalist, delivered a report "Issues in Researching the Famine of 1946–1947 in the Moldavian SSR in the Context of Soviet Repressive Policies."

Historian and founder of the Avdarma Village Museum, I. Kazmalı, spoke about the famine of 1946–1947 in Gagauz localities and shared documents from the museum's archive.

Among the speakers were: Rector of CSU, Assoc. Prof., PhD, Serghei Zaharia; historian and director of the Department for Interethnic Policy at the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, I. Duminica; Director of the Institute of History, Dr. Habil. V. Bîrlădeanu; and Professor at the “Ștefan cel Mare” Academy, Dr. S. Carp, among others.

An exhibition of archival documents was opened in the reading room of the university’s scientific library.

Dr. S. Carp donated his textbook “Drept execuțional-penal” and the monograph “Inhuman and Degrading Treatments Applied to Women and Minors in Detention Institutions of the MSSR (1944–1949)” to the university library.

The participants asked questions, shared opinions and memories, and emphasized the importance of remembering the tragic events of our past — to understand, reflect, and build a conscious and united future together.
