GDE and CSU Join Forces to Improve the Quality of Gagauz Language Teaching

The Gagauzia General Directorate of Education and Comrat State University have signed an agreement aimed at implementing a new curriculum for the Gagauz language and literature in primary education. This agreement will open new opportunities to enhance the quality of native language teaching and strengthen students' knowledge. The new curriculum, "Gagauz dili hem literatura okumakları," for primary classes was developed by the General Directorate of Education of Gagauzia in collaboration with leading experts in Gagauz studies. Its goal is to make learning the native language more accessible and effective, with a focus on developing students' communication skills. The new teaching methods were piloted for one academic year in five schools across the autonomous region. The analysis showed a positive trend in the development of students' oral speech. The new curriculum, "Gagauz dili hem literatura okumakları," was approved by the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova at the request of the GDE of Gagauzia. Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, the new approach to teaching the Gagauz language is being implemented in all schools of the autonomy. The agreement signed between the GDE and CSU provides for the creation of a solid methodological foundation for the successful implementation of the new program. It is crucial to ensure the necessary conditions for its effective realization. This will require the development of modern educational and methodological materials. Special attention will be paid to working with Gagauz language teachers. Regular seminars, training sessions, and workshops will help teachers master new teaching methods focused on developing communication skills. The creation of professional communities and experience exchange among educators will also be an important step toward the successful implementation of the program. As part of the agreement, a working group has been established, including specialists from CSU, GDE, the Maria Marunevici research Center, and teachers. The working group will focus on the quality of program implementation in schools. Systematic monitoring will track students' progress, identify difficulties, and make timely adjustments to the learning process. This comprehensive approach will ensure sustainable results in Gagauz language education. Open lessons will be organized to assess students' language competencies. The first open lessons will take place as early as March 2025. Additionally, surveys will be conducted among teachers and parents to identify possible issues and find solutions. The implementation of the updated curriculum is an important step in preserving and developing the Gagauz language. The joint efforts of the GDE and CSU will create conditions for improving students' proficiency in their native language, making it a full-fledged means of communication in everyday life.
