“Mihail Ciachir — a pillar of faith and enlightenment, a bridge between eras and cultures”
A round table dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the birth of the enlightener Mihail Ciachir was held at the M. V. Marunevici Scientific Research Center of Gagauzia.
On April 27, 2026, staff and students of Comrat State University took part in the scientific and cultural event organized by the M. V. Marunevici Scientific Research Center of Gagauzia. The round table was dedicated to the memory of the outstanding son of the Gagauz people — enlightener, educator, translator, and archpriest Mihail Ciachir.
The forum brought together representatives of the clergy, scientific, cultural, and educational institutions of the autonomy, as well as researchers of the center. Welcoming speeches were delivered by the Center’s Director Irina Konstantinova, the vicar of the Cahul-Comrat Diocese Vitaly Zelinsky, and the Rector of USC, Doctor and Associate Professor Serghei Zaharia.
In his speech, Rector Serghei Zaharia emphasized that Mihail Ciachir is a spiritual guide and a symbol of the national revival of the Gagauz people. He devoted his life to education, the development of the native language, and the preservation of traditions. His historical contribution lies in shaping the cultural foundation and identity of the Gagauz people, and his name is still regarded as a symbol of spiritual revival.
The speakers presented current research on Ciachir’s role in strengthening Orthodoxy in Bessarabia, his translation work, and his contribution to biblical texts. Special attention was given to the preservation of archival heritage and efforts to commemorate the enlightener.
During the event, Doctor Habilitatus, Professor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova Viktor Tsvirkun presented Rector S. Zaharia with the illustrated album “Împreună spre viitor”.
The round table dedicated to the 165th anniversary of Mihail Ciachir demonstrated that his personality remains a modern “spiritual guide”. The event not only honored the memory of the great enlightener but also outlined concrete tasks for science and education: further study of archives, promotion of the Gagauz language through Ciachir’s works, and strengthening cultural ties with the outside world. His name continues to serve as a bridge connecting the historical roots of the Gagauz people with their future development.
