The Role of Education in Supporting Ukrainian Refugees: Participation of CSU in an UNHCR Event
On April 28, representatives of Comrat State University participated in an event organized with the support of UNHCR, where up-to-date data on the situation of Ukrainian refugees was presented.
The aim of the meeting was to inform educational institutions about the current dynamics of migration, temporary protection measures, and opportunities for refugee integration through education and social programs.
Special attention was given to the role of universities in youth adaptation, access to education, and support for vulnerable groups.
As a result of the event, strengthening cooperation between universities and international organizations is expected, along with the development of joint projects and the implementation of practical initiatives aimed at supporting refugee students and their successful integration into the academic environment.
According to UNHCR data as of the end of January 2026, approximately 140,000 Ukrainians arrived in the country, of whom 101,190 came directly from Ukraine. 88,383 people received temporary protection, while 45,000 applied for its extension in 2026. Additionally, 3,648 have temporary residence permits, 2,541 have permanent residence, and 334 are in the asylum system.
Among arrivals, 42% are women, and nearly half are children (22% girls and 25% boys).
