Representatives of DW Academy in Comrat State University

On April 01, 2022, the Rector of the Comrat State University, Serghei Zaharia, and the Vice-Rector for Science and International Relations, Sofia Sulac, met with representatives of DW Akademie in Moldova: Olena Ponomarenko, Program Director and Christina Leva.

Representatives of DW Akademie said that the activities of this organization are focused on media and information literacy, as well as on improving the skills of young journalists and teachers.

As one of the leading media development organizations in Europe, DW Akademie is involved in the Republic of Moldova in the development of media education and the provision of new solutions for media consumers. For more than six years, DW Akademie, together with its partners, has been conducting programs on media and information literacy ( MIL ) - both in formal and non-formal education.

Today, children and youth are the most active in terms of digitalization, but at the same time one of the most vulnerable groups in the country. Although they quickly learn how to handle social media, they tend to use the media rather casually and as a result are exposed to various associated risks, including hate speech, cybermobbing, propaganda and group pressure.

Together with the State Pedagogical University "Ion Creanga", DW Akademie developed advanced training courses for teachers teaching media education and, together with the Center for Independent Journalism, published textbooks for elementary, middle and high school. These initiatives were accompanied by trainings, competitions for schools and annual events such as the Media Education Week and the Media Literacy Forum of Moldova.

Representatives of DW Akademie in Moldova offer new approaches to teaching media education and mass literacy of the population. School and university teachers also need modern media and teaching skills to prepare younger generations for life in the digital age. As a result, teachers and lecturers are now undergoing additional training and are developing new modules and interactive learning materials so that they can impart media skills to students from primary schools to universities.

Within the framework of cooperation with the State Pedagogical University "Ion Creanga" and the State University of Comrat, DW Akademie intends to further develop media education, especially among communities of national minorities, as well as contribute to the professional development of journalists and the development of new media formats.
