Faculties and students of Comrat State University took part in the Resilience and Social Cohesion Forum

Faculties and students of Comrat State University took part in the Resilience and Social Cohesion Forum, held on March 25, 2026, in Comrat, as part of the final event of the project “Empowering people and communities for stronger social cohesion.” The forum brought together representatives of civil society, local leaders, experts, and beneficiaries in order to present conclusions and evaluate the results of activities implemented at the local level. The project was implemented by Institutum Virtutes Civilis and funded through a grant provided by IWPR (Institute for War and Peace Reporting), with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom. During the opening of the event, Liliana Palihovici, President of AO IVC, emphasized the importance of investing in local leaders, noting that social cohesion and successful integration are only possible through active citizen participation, dialogue development, and strengthening trust between people and institutions. Tatiana Chebac, representative of BREN (Building Resilience in the Eastern Neighbourhood), also highlighted the importance of community-level interventions, stressing that sustainable change occurs when citizens are engaged in public life and have the tools for active participation, dialogue, and cooperation. Svetlana Ghenova, PhD, Associate Professor of the Comrat State University, noted and on behalf of the university’s administration congratulated the organizers and participants on the successful completion of the project and the achievement of significant results in fulfilling its objectives. She emphasized that one of the university’s strategic priorities is the integration of reliable, up-to-date, and modern information into the educational and training process. According to her, Comrat State University currently serves as a platform for consolidating communities in the ATU Gagauzia region, contributing to the promotion of progressive ideas and initiatives, as well as the valorization of achievements of people living and working both in the country and abroad. An important component of the project was the implementation of a KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices) sociological study conducted in 31 localities with 408 respondents, which revealed a high level of information vulnerability, mistrust in institutions, and persistence of gender stereotypes. Comrat State University acted as a local partner, contributing to the dissemination of research results and facilitating dialogue with young people in ATU Gagauzia. Within the project, approximately 300 participants were trained in leadership, dialogue and conflict mediation, storytelling and fact-checking, cybersecurity, media literacy, and countering hate speech, which contributed to the development of critical thinking, media literacy, digital security, and civic engagement skills. Overall, the event demonstrated that such initiatives significantly contribute to strengthening social cohesion, reducing misinformation, and developing resilient local communities
