On December 19, 2024, faculty members and representatives from the Department of International Relations and Project Activities of Comrat State University took part in the online seminar "Enhancing the Relevance of Education through Micro-credentials in the Republic of Moldova." The event was organized by the Erasmus+ National Office in Moldova in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, with support from the EU Delegation to Moldova. This seminar is part of the work carried out by higher education reform experts under the Erasmus+ program of the European Union and was supported by the SPHERE consortium. The seminar aimed to explore the implementation of micro-credentials to enhance the relevance and quality of education in Moldova’s higher education institutions. The keynote speaker was Professor Frank McMahon, former Academic Affairs Director at the Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland). In his presentation, he highlighted the European approach to micro-credentials as a tool for lifelong learning and improving labor market competitiveness. The adoption of micro-credentials in Moldovan universities could: strengthen the link between higher education and labor market needs; support the development of courses fostering the sustainable growth of key economic sectors such as agriculture, biopharmaceuticals, and IT; reduce education costs through international program support like Erasmus+. Comrat State University’s participation in such initiatives underscores its commitment to being part of international efforts to modernize education. Engaging with EU colleagues and experts like Professor McMahon helps the university: prepare students for modern labor market challenges; develop specialized short courses on key topics; stimulate continuous professional development through modern learning approaches.
Comrat State University extends its gratitude to the event organizers and will continue actively engaging in projects aimed at strengthening the links between education, technology, and the region’s economic needs.
