On September 26, 2025, Comrat State University hosted the official opening of the academic year within a unique program organized by “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați (Romania), with the support of the Romanian Ministry of Education. 160 young people from ATU Gagauzia (Republic of Moldova) began studies in the Preparatory Year of the Romanian Language for Foreign Citizens, intended for those whose mother tongue is not Romanian. The program lasts one academic year, divided into two semesters, and graduates will obtain a B1-level language proficiency certificate. The opening ceremony brought together representatives from the academic and administrative environment of both Moldova and Romania, including Prof. Marian Barbu, Rector of “Dunărea de Jos” University, Prof. Sorin Cîmpeanu, President of the National Council of Rectors of Romania, Assoc. Prof. Mariana Bălănică-Dragomir, Dean of the Cross-Border Faculty, Serghei Anastasov, Mayor of Comrat, and faculty members from “Dunărea de Jos” University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serghei Zaharia, Rector of Comrat State University, addressed the participants with a welcome message, which he initially delivered in the native Gagauz and Romanian languages. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of preserving and developing the Gagauz mother tongue, as well as productively mastering the Romanian state language as an essential condition for the successful academic and professional integration of young people. This event represents an important step in strengthening educational and cultural relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, opening new opportunities for young people and shaping a new generation of bilingual specialists.
